Pet Diagnostics in Ames, IA

At your pet's annual wellness appointment, your veterinarian will perform a series of tests to ensure your pet is in good health and there are no urgent issues to deal with. For every adult cat and dog, this includes:

  • Bloodwork including chemistry panel, CBC, +/- thyroid
  • Heartworm testing and tick-borne disease testing for dogs
  • Fecal sample

Based on the results of those tests and other scans, we can perform additional diagnostics to provide the most appropriate care.

Our in-house veterinary diagnostics include:

  • Digital radiography uses x-rays to produce images of bones. We can send them to a board certified radiologist for interpretation and recommendations.
  • Blood testing including chemistry and CBC (noted above) gives us valuable information on levels of several components in the blood and can help pinpoint causes of health problems. Cytology is done to evaluate at the microscopic level.
  • Blood pressure is a major vital sign we use to diagnose health problems and that we monitor to make sure your pet is responding well during surgical and dental procedures.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) recording of the way your pet’s heart is working can be done in house and sent to a board certified cardiologist for interpretation and recommendations.
  • Fecal/cytology smears can reveal parasites and illnesses so that we may treat them quickly and effectively.

Our clients come for bloodwork and testing from the following areas: Ames | Ankeny | Boone | Gilbert | Huxley | Nevada | Roland
